March 27th, 2020 Baseball Winter Meetings Trivia Answer

Bill Veeck and Roland Hemond created a sign that said, Open for Business.

Veeck’s ownership bid of the Chicago White Sox was approved earlier at the meetings, after an initial vote that fell short of the needed approval. Reportedly, John Fetzer, owner of the Detroit Tigers, chastised the other owners regarding their indifference toward their business. A second vote was taken, and Veeck was approved.

Extra Credit: Hemond obtained a phone for Veeck to use in the hotel lobby. Hemond said, “Then I knew I had to get a phone for him so I had the hotel install one right on a table in the lobby.”
